Bees for development
The specialist international beekeeping organisation
As part of a major rebranding of Bees for development a new, responsive website was required to consolidate the various existing resources (mission statement, presentation of activities for donors and NGOs, presentation of information and resources for practical beekeepers, management of a large library of bee related information, online store) and to bring them in line with a new, focused presentation style.
- Website Development
- Umbraco CMS
- SalesForce Integration
- Website Maintenance
The project is still in development, although the initial basic site and the basis for locally managed regional microsites are live at time of writing.
The platform selected for this project is Umbraco, and open source, .NET based content management system. Wye Media has been involved in previous website development projects for Bees for development, and from previous experience it was clear that a user friendly back office was going to be a major factor in creating a site that was actively and enthusiastically maintained. The Umbraco back office allows the flexibility to restrict different users to different functions within the site structure, necessary for allowing microsite management, coupled with an extremely well designed, friendly back office. We've used this CMS previously on a large public transport related website, and it proved to be a good platform for some quite complex development. The Bees site involves:
- A complex site structure including separate areas requiring different user permissions
- A very large library database holding a variety of documents, video and audio data
- A shopping cart
- Automated background communication with the Bees for development CRM system
The phases of the project currently delivered are performing well, and more phases should be going live shortly.
The project includes ongoing maintenance and staff training.
